A SCARCE 12-BORE 1887 PATENT (FIRST PATENT EJECTOR) ROUND-ACTION TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 4109,
for 1887, 29in. nitro reproved barrels (possibly damascus), the rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON, 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/2 choke, Dickson 1880 patent round actions, patent no. 294 of 23rd January 1880 with Dickson first patent ejector system, patent no. 9399 of 2nd July 1887, with single pin in action with all in one kicker/compressor and single extractor with independent ejecting tabs, flats stamped use no. 194, tang with gold pin cocking-indicators, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork and with 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. PATENT' in scrolling banners, brushed and reblued finish overall, 14in. highly-figured stock (refinished and with ornate bordering to the chequering), weight 6lb. 7oz.

Provenance: The makers records list the gun as being sold on the 10th August 1887 with 29in. barrels.
The first recorded example in the records of this first pattern ejector is gun No 4085, delivered on the 21st July 1887. By 1890/91 the more familiar two pin system with separate kickers and compressors had been adopted
